Alien Lab

When Stockhausen heard music by Aphex Twin and Massive Attack, his response was: ‘Pretty good, but they should give up repetition’
This was an experiment with electronics, rhythm and repetition but each part had it’s own tempo. So this might sound random, it’s just not.

The music could be illustrating the following:

‘Finally young Gurp found his way into the secret Alien Laboratory. He gazed upon the strange materials when his eye fell on a small purple egg.’

Then again, I could be wrong ;)

Stairway to heaven

Top 2000 is in full swing here. Led Zeppelin is always in the upper regions, but did you know this is actually a cover version?
Everybody knows that Paul is dead. So here’s another fact: the trained eye spots instantly that Paul is right handed in this video.

They forgot to put ‘terrorize bus passengers with loud music’ as an option for this invention.

It’s all over

Ah, somehow this year it feels really good to have Christmas over with. Here’s some Jpop to get you quickly back in the groove. The band ‘Capsule’ makes a mix between game-music, jazz and dance. The song is called ‘Plastic Girl’

The worst Jingle Bells record EVER
waynenewtonchristmas.jpg

Wayne Newton’s Christmas album must contain my nr.1 crappy Jingle Bells cover: ‘Jingle Bell Hustle’. In the 70s there was this dance called ‘the hustle’ so this was the most logical Christmas cover right? Wrong!
You can listen (and….pst…don’t tell anybody…dowload it) here

Pac Man guitar

This is the most awesome guitar I have ever seen. Sadly it is one of a kind, but I would love to see this thing in action.

Oscar Peterson 15 Aug 1925 – 23 Dec 2007

oscarp.jpg
Last night in Toronto my hero died of a kidney failure.
Oscar Peterson was considered by many as the greatest jazz piano player ever. I’ll tell you why.
Listening to jazz music can be a bit hard to the untrained ear. Some people get lost in the beat (where’s the one?) or the form. What Peterson always did was lending a helping hand. Whenever a moment like that was about to happen, he could play something like no one else could, as if he was saying: ‘Don’t you worry, we are exactly here in the story, now follow along and we are going to have some more fun’.

As a young piano-student I had this big poster of him and his enormous hands hanging in my bedroom. I played numerous albums over and over and over and over again. His ‘Hymn to Freedom’ is after 20 years still on my funeral wishlist.

Up to this day whenever a live recording from O.P. is on the radio, a smile instantly appears on my face. Sort of a natural high.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to put this album on repeat…

Jingle Bells #4

Ah , Christmas approaching and we crank the spirit up a notch -or down, it’s just how you want to see it.
Not an easy time for some, even Schnauzer has his quieter moments…and I’m suffering from a cold as well.

That’s exactly the moment this sort music happens, Jingle Bells without any bells….

Enjoy,

Stringle Bells 1:00

Jingle Bells #3

jumpjingle.jpg

Ever since I heard a jumpstyle version of ‘Raindrops keep falling on my head’ I had the idea of making a complete album with such tunes. You must understand that this ‘version’ was just a kickdrum and a synthlead. That was it, no other instruments and the crowd went wild. So I started thinking of songs nobody would touch with a ten foot pole like ‘Stairway to heaven’ or ‘My way’. The trick would be to freely give away every single song to avoid anybody making any money out of this music.
Here is a special Christmas jumpstyle version I did of ‘Jingle Bells’. I really deeply hate it, so this feels as one hour of work wasted (and 2 minutes of your time…sorry about that).

I certainly didn’t enjoy,
