Leningrad Cowboys

Totally forgot about this. Playing with my first band in the rock ‘n roll venues. After the gig having a few drinks while this was playig LOUD over the P.A.
The Leningrad Cowboys are still a major act in Finland and they still play all over Europe. BUT…. in 1994 they did a legendary concert, backed up by the Russian Red Army Ensemble (a 160 piece band with a huge choir) they performed the ‘Total Balalaika Show’. This video give just a little taste of that concert. The triple DVD-set is available as import and I am ordering now!

Free Dr.Pepper

Never bet on something improbable. For 15 years Axl Rose was working in his new album and some at some point in time someone at a Dr.Pepper said: ‘If the New Guns’n Roses album gets released I’ll buy everyone a Dr.Pepper.  Guns ‘n Roses weren’t even in on this deal. Now, since the album release is today, the term ‘everyone’ was a bit slimmed down. By ‘everyone’ they mean everyone in the USA apart from former band members Slash and Buckethead. So regardless if your a fan, you are going to buy this album, or -like me- don’t want to come near this album within 10 yards, you can get your free Dr.Pepper here (by downloading a coupon which is valid until Februari 28. You have until 12 am EST. I tried and tried but the server was down all day. It seems America is thirsty.

—update- the site is up again, so get yours now! —

Now about this album: It is called ‘Chinese Democracy’.
You work for 15 years on one single album and this is what you come up with? I think that says a lot about Mr. Rose’s creativity. More appropriate would be:

-’Sorry I am late’
-’So how were the nineties?’
-’SURPRISE!’ , or if they really want to have a Chinese angle: ‘SUPLIES!’

Justice

While searching for the origin of the children’s choir sample used in Justice’s song D.A.N.C.E. I ran into Baby’s Gang. An 80s Italo-pop kid exploitation band. Not exactly the same material as was used in Justice’s version but close enough.  For this song they were even backed up by Boney M! Can it get any better? I think not!

N.Y. Public TV

I need more pubic T.V. stations like this. This clip comes from the talkshow: ‘Goddesses’ a local program from Queens N.Y. When I first watched this I was amazed by the sudden turnaround in the music. First there is a drumbeat and you think : ‘well, this might be something groovy’ but then she starts to sing. The dancing brother is the one who wrote the song btw as he tells in this clip. He also does a rap-song in this musical highight

While my keytar gently weeps

I’m almost finishing the small tour we did with a George Harrison tribute “While my guitar Gently Weeps”. Last night returning from the gig I listened to Coverville ep.519, and behold a great cover of that particular song was in that very episode. I had to stop the car to laugh and to listen to the awesomeness even better. Not only that but I could be downloaded legaly AND free here

Snippet from the forums:
Lemon Demon:  “Sadly I didn’t actually use the keytar in this. It’s lovely but not quite as lovely as my microkorg.”

Forum member response : “A microkorg is just a keytar in need of a strap”

Hammond Fiddling

My organ is not full time present in the Schnauzer Studios, because of all the live-gigging going on. Last Monday I had to carry the thing in for a rock-project that had to be finished this week. To do a mic-check (and also to finally do some schnauzer-recording) I allowed myself to fiddle about for 2 minutes . I added a drumloop and added some reverb, and presto, the next summer hit for the Schnauzer Radio Orchestra was done.
