Abbey Road

The band ‘Blame Ringo, released their first single accompanied by this video. It’s a timelapse outside the Abbey Road studio’s. For the young folks:  From the release of the Beatles’ Abbey Road album, people are constantly trying to recreate the cover.

“Blame Ringo” is one of my favourite band names now. Last year we made up  ‘Sorry Ringo’, a Cover band that only plays John Lennon reportoire.

R.I.P. Louis Bellson

According to Louisbellson.info, Mr.Bellson was hospitalized after a hip breaking fall in November 2008. He was still in recovery when unexpectedly passing away on Feb 14 2009. He was 84 years old.

I had the pleasure of attending one of his concerts a few years back. It was stunning to see one of the founding fathers of swing doing his thing. The concert went a little like this:

style new, old song

Like I said: I am in the middle of doing morning radio-shows this whole week with my 60s band ‘the revolvers’

Everyday we do a chalenge: How would this modern song have sounded when it was made in the 60s.

So far we did 4

You can check them out over at www.revolvers.nl , or you can browse to the radio2 site (less dutch jibberish, very fast,  but windows only :(   )

New song, old style

46746_47963e
The 60s band I’m in (‘the Revolvers)’ is doing a national radio-morningshow this week. The station is playing only 60s record this week, so we feel right at home.
We do a little quiz, fiddle around during the broadcast, and we top it off by doing a 60s version of a modern song every day. It’s like doing a backwards cover if that makes any sense.

The first one we did today was Gabriella Cilmi’s ‘Sweet about me’
youtube original is here

And here is the ‘Revolvers’ version:

Guitar Rack

oak_6_bottle_guitarThe most important music gear fair (namm2009) is behind us and slowly we get a grasp of what oddities we can buy the coming year. First we take a look at this very guitar Rack.

Building a guitar Wine Rack is so wrong in many ways. It implies that Guitar players have an excellent taste. This manufacturer must understand that if such a guitarplayer is to be found, he probably couldn’t afford the proper wine to fill such a rack.
My guess: this thing will wind up in a shoddy dressing room with cigarette stains filled with half empty beer-bottles.

If you fit the above description you can always go to:

Nobody’s Listening

t-shirt_finalSince the ‘Nobody’s Listening’-podcast is hosted by pastor James, I figured it would be a good idea to get the Schnauzer Radio Orchestra a little blessing (you can never go wrong with that). I went ahead and made him a little tune to open up the podcast, and use it as a bed to talk over.

Basicly this whole operation was a one shot. One microphone, one preamp, one piano, etc. I almost didn’t have to leave my chair, bending over to do a one-hand organ part, reaching left to get my ukelele. I think I need to install a Wii-fit in the studio to get some excersize, or use 2 hands and 30 overdubs to record the shakers.
