Winter Wonderland

winterstylophone

What is Christmas without a SuperNES, a Stylophone, a Wurlitzer and an all girls 60s choir? Nothing, I tell you!
Since I’m breaking a few laws with this one I am not telling who are the singers nanana.
Also it is unclear where the sampling stops and where the true schnauzer-sauce is starting. I’m just telling you can leave out the ladies and still a full track is playing for your little bear-dance. (If I’m ever planning to release this legally I would have to, don’t you just love copyright law?)
This track is sort of a new years resolution. The resolution is: A whole lot more like this to come!

Anyhow, wishing you all a Happy Christmas!

(do with this track as you please. Blog about it, remix it, give it away to your worst enemies, or just do a little nerdy dance to it.)

Spinal Tap tribute.

spinaltap

It’s been 25 years since This is Spinal Tap was released. The most quoted ROCKumentary in any tour-van traveling around the globe.
Two years ago I overheard Coverville’s super D.J. Brian Ibbott’s wish to release a Spinal Tap tribute album. In fact, since he is one of the nicest guys in the entire Internet I decided to come along. At this date the first 5 covers are in his mailbox, and the Schnauzer Radio Orchestra contribution is one of them! The original song can be viewed here.
Below is a sneak peak of my version. For the full version some patience is required, but the production of the album is in full swing.

re-201

Did a quick rendition on my Fender Rhodes of the Dr.Who theme. I always wanted to do something with this, it might end up in a normal big project, who knows. I Fed the Rhodes straight into a Roland re201 Space Echo. No processing was done afterwards.

Nothing beats tape, NOTHING! *insert frantic laughter*

Kirk-Spock

Another piece done by the Schnauzer Electro Orchestra. At this stage I can’t tell what it’s for, but it’s coming to an iPod near you soon.I will be updating this post as more info is available.

Here’s my vision of 1960’s Kirk soaring through Hyperspace while a 2030’s dance party is being held in the holo-deck… (yes I mixed TOS with TNG in one sentence, I had to feed the inner geek).

Update: There isn’t a single Start Trek sample nor any ST-related stuff in this trek.. ehm track. The ST universe was taken as a way of inspiration for it.

Update 2:  The music was made especially for a show called ‘Fourcast’ Click picture to read more.

Can he speak Dutch?

SF-dutch
The question still remains; can Scott Fletcher speak dutch?

Over this past weekend I was in need of a voice talent badly AND with a killing deadline. I recorded the lines and sent them over to Scott so he could copy my dutch words. within 24 hours I got a sample back, with a remark at the end: “Wow! I have no idea if ANY of that is useful!”

It was, and like I stated before, a voice like that makes 99% of the promo. I just had to compose a 20 second suite under that and presto! Now Rotterdam knows they got a free jazzfestival coming up. And I’ve just made the fasted collaboration ever. (also one of my favourite DJ’s is spinning there: DJ Blue Flamingo, who spins only rare 78rpm records), now if you’ll excuse me I’ve got some sleep to catch up…

m113, take one

This audio clip scared the bejeezus out of me. Well, not in THAT sense, but you’ll hear some mumbo jumbo going on. and then they count off. I constantly keep forgetting how awesome old records sound, and ask myself: Why don’t I put that record on more often? This one will be on the table for the next week.

Oh, yes: who this singer is…. that is too obvious, I won’t say.

The 60s band I’m in (’the Revolvers)’ is doing a national radio-morningshow this week. The station is playing only 60s record this week, so we feel right at home.
We do a little quiz, fiddle around during the broadcast, and we top it off by doing a 60s version of a modern song every day. It’s like doing a backwards cover if that makes any sense.

The first one we did today was Gabriella Cilmi’s ‘Sweet about me’
youtube original is here

And here is the ‘Revolvers’ version:

Mission: do an original, not a remix, not a cover.
specifics: Waltz, Accordion, Philicorda, Bells.

The clapping sound in the background is hands on naked thighs… Imagine a large condenser mic over a pair of legs with the trousers dropped on the ankles, on second thought: don’t. Sorry for that info, it sounded just way better with my pants off. :)

Happy New Year!
With this Tune I declare 2009 the year of the Schnauzer. It’s a bit hard describe this one; is it an original or a remix? 90% of what you hear is played in the last month. The rest is from a hard to find German 60s album. For some reason I keep going back to using found material, although it is way more work than recording an original from scratch. Note to self: do an original next week.

Vocals: Katja Hollander
Backing Vocals: The Schnauz-ettes
Philicorda organ, percussion, drums, bleeps etc: Schnauzer Radio Orchestra
